Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is looking for qualified candidates to fill the following position.

Position 1: Human Rights Officer, Human Rights Education

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, review educational materials including lesson plans, online courses, manuals, and other educational resources focused on human rights topics;
  • Support the undertaking of research to ensure accuracy and relevance of human rights education content, as well as the mainstreaming of human rights topics in the curricula;
  • Conduct in-person and virtual workshops, seminars, and training sessions to educate diverse audiences about human rights by creating participatory learning environments that foster inclusive and safe spaces for learners;
  • Support in organization of educational events by planning and executing conferences, forums, and other events to promote human rights education;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders such as NGOs, schools, community groups, and other organizations to implement human rights education programs;
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments in human rights issues and educational methodologies;
  • Work with subject matter experts, educators, and stakeholders to gather input and feedback;
  • Collaborate with graphic designers to create visually appealing and user-friendly manuals;
  • Participate in continuous evaluation of the curriculum to ensure effectiveness and make improvements based on feedback and outcomes;
  • Closely work with relevant thematic functions in design of content, assessment of the quality of human rights promotion materials and avoid duplication on the content and effort between and among departments;
  • Provide advice to trainers on tools designed for the provision of trainings and the developed training materials. Prepare a discussion forum with trainers to have a shared understanding of best practices in human rights education;
  • Ensure that human rights education planning outcomes are highly effective and well aligned with the direction and set objectives;

Qualifications and Experience:

  • LLB/LLM in Human Rights Law, International Law or related fields.
  • 4 years of relevant experience for BA/LLB and 2 years of relevant experience for MA/LLM. Experience in curriculum development, instructional design, or educational program management is essential.
  • Strong research, writing, and editing skills. Proficiency in instructional design principles and familiarity with human rights issues. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of Amharic is required. Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous.

Position 2: Human Rights Officer, Monitoring and Investigation

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage investigation of human rights complaints assigned to him/her;
  • Contribute to decisions in consultation with coordinators and Senior Human Rights Officers;
  • Conduct monitoring of places of detention and draft reports;
  • Conduct human rights monitoring during emergencies;
  • Issue recommendations: develop and implement advocacy and follow up strategy;
  • Proposes areas for systemic investigation and refer them to thematic functions in consultation with the Senior Human Right Officer/Coordinator;
  • Manage partnerships and relationships with stakeholders;
  • Conducts research on human rights issues as appropriate;
  • Provide input on revisions of systems, policies, guidelines, manuals, and tools;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Position 3: Financial Auditor

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design the auditing process using common standard practices, policies, goals, and regulation;
  • Indicate areas where risk is found to generate a more complete picture of financial responsibility;
  • Analyze adherence with budgetary standards and guidelines using financial data and balance sheets;
  • Review all financial materials and procedures to spot errors, inefficiencies, or instances of misuse;
  • Document all internal processes within an audit; list all data sources; detail all conclusions after an investigation;
  • Update the internal organization’s team members with periodic status reports, meetings, and other important developments; publish a report after completing an inquiry;
  • Work to develop new standards of practice within the commission to increase accounting accuracy and integrity;
  • Aid in the case of an external audit of EHRC;
  • Reflect on historical and current budgetary trends found in the data;
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise within the field by participating in professional development;
  • Keep all sensitive information confidential and secure;
  • Analyze accounting entries and financial data, examine records and documents, prepare analyses and summaries of findings and draft detailed reports regarding investigation results;
  • Evaluate processes and procedures to identify weaknesses that can lead to loss; develop new loss-mitigation techniques and procedures;
  • reviews a company’s financial statements, documents, data, and accounting entries;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Position 4: Project, M&E Coordinator

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead on the successful implementation of all project deliverables and develop and manage an implementation timetable for the project, working with the relevant functions to ensure delivery of project targets to a high quality and within the contracted timeframe and budget;
  • Plan project activities, relevant functions to ensure detailed project implementation plans (per department) are in place, understood by team members across all departments and effectively implemented as scheduled;
  • Track progress against project objectives, ensuring full completion as per project work plans;
  • Ensure effective system to monitor and evaluate the quality of project delivery are in place;
  • Develop and oversee implementation of comprehensive and cost-effective project visibility and communication strategies, recognizing donor contributions and motivation in addition to other project stakeholders;
  • Ensure quality reporting of project achievements and documenting of best practices and lessons learnt in the course of implementation to use them for future/new project design process;
  • Coordinate the proposal and concept note development process by carrying out human rights situation assessment and identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, studying calls for proposals (CFP’s), and sharing information with responsible departments;
  • Work closely with Finance and Admin team to ensure adequate support is provided to support the project delivery;

  • 8 years of relevant experience for LLB/BA and 6 years of relevant experience for LLM/MA with at least 2 years of project management experience.
  • Previous experience managing and/or implementing donor-funded projects.
  • Proven project management skills, including planning, budget management, monitoring and evaluation and reporting, and management of resources
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of major donor regulations
  •  Computer literate
  • Knowledge of Amharic and English is required
  • Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous.
