Danish Refugee Council

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), an international non-governmental organization (NGO), has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. DRC promotes and supports solutions to the problems faced by refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and migrants. The organization has offices across the region, and has been operational in Ethiopia since 2009.  With funding from bilateral and multilateral donors, DRC is currently implementing a range of activities across Ethiopia and Djibouti, including WASH and shelter provision, child and youth protection, gender based violence response, awareness-raising of migration risks, protection monitoring of migration routes, and livelihoods support for returning migrants or those at-risk of migration.

Job Requirements

Experience and Technical Competencies: (include years of experience)

  • A minimum of 5 years experience working in international development and/or humanitarian programming particularly in the area of protection, migration and refugee affairs.
  • Excellent understanding of the migration sector in Ethiopia, particularly in the area of refugee, returnees and host community.
  • Experience in working with government counterparts and other partners at various levels – federal to district. This includes technical support, capacity-building and coordination.
  • Strong project management experience, including resource management, work planning, implementation oversight and periodic review, and compliance management
  • Significant experience in training, capacity building, and mentoring
  • Experience working on DFID and/or FCDO funded programmes
  • Robust analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience of diverse team management
  • Highly diplomatic with excellent political awareness and understanding
  • High-level communications and interpersonal skills
  • A demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with governments, donors, partners, local organisations, and other stakeholders

Education (include certificates, licenses etc.):

  • Degree in social science studies, sociology, international development, economics or other relevant fields.

Languages: (indicate fluency level)

  • Excellent verbal and written English.
  • Fluency in Amharic
  • Other local languages a plus
